In January 1970 the Dedham Community House opened its
preschool in the historic Bullard House on a bluff over the Charles
River. This program, begun with 20 students and 5 teachers,
provided “a home away from home,” filling an emerging need for
early childhood care with the growth of working two-parent and
single-parent households.

Fifty years later, DCH Preschool remains a leader in quality early
childhood education, offering a play-based, developmentally
appropriate, and nurturing environment with a dedicated,
professional staff. The school serves 65 children a day, ages 15
months to 5 years, from every corner of Dedham as well as
several towns. With the help of corporate and individual donors,
DCH is committed to its financial aid program.

Every day this gem in our community celebrates the curiosity
and creativity of our children; come help us celebrate its history
and its future on March 6.

“You have made such a loving, nurturing community
for the little ones but also for the parents and families.
We feel so lucky to be a part of this community.”
